Other Crew Information:

  1. Always provide the crew with up-to-date telephone numbers and information via Davis Fire Crew email address.
  2. You will be terminated if you miss or refuse one fire call without approval by a crew leader.
  3. When called up for a dispatch, you must answer or return the call within 30 minutes or your spot will be filled by another DFC firefighter and you will be marked as missing a call.
  4. At the time of dispatch crewmembers must meet at the dispatch point at the church parking lot on the southeast corner of East 8th Street and Poleline Rd unless alternate arrangements are specified when called up. There is no parking in the dispatch point parking lot.  It's best to get dropped off.  You may park your cars on the street, but do so at your own risk!  Bring your Incident Qualification "red" card with you, as it is your source of identification for the fire incident.  Note: While at the DFC dispatch point, you must be calm and quiet. Do not wander or disturb the neighbors. Act professionally at all times!
  5. You should be 'fire ready' when you arrive for a dispatch. You should have at least four quarts of water. You should be dressed in in pants and DFC t-shirt and be wearing your boots. Your personal gear intended for your red pack needs to be in a duffel bag or large plastic bag.
  6. Alcohol and narcotics are strictly prohibited on Davis Fire Crew. Possession or use of alcoholic beverages or nonprescription drugs during the period of employment will not be permitted and will constitute grounds for immediate dismissal (Have a nice walk home.)
  7. No personal or sexual harassment will be tolerated under any circumstances. This includes, but is not limited to, fighting, verbal abuse, and possesion of any sexually explicit material.
  8. On fires the dress code is as follows: Nomex shirt, Nomex pants and boots must be worn when on paid time (i.e. at time of dispatch, during fire line assignment), as well as at other times designated by the crewleader. Crewleaders may impose other dress requirements as conditions dictate. Crew t-shirts or crew sweatshirts must always be worn as your outermost layer when the crew is in a public setting (i.e. meals, fire camp, etc.).
  9. On dispatches, crewmembers must keep in contact with their squadleaders at all times, while on the fireline as well as in camp.
  10. If you plan to go off-call, please let us know at least two days in advance. If you are unavailable for more than 72 hours you will be moved to the bottom of the rotation. Remember: Once on a dispatch you must be able give us at least 16 days, so plan ahead!
  11. Transportation home is not provided for firefighters who are dismissed while on a dispatch. The following is a partial list of grounds for dismissal:
    1. refusing a fire call.
    2. failure to report to dispatch point on time during a dispatch.
    3. abandoning the crew while on a fire.
    4. failure to meet any of the above conditions of employment
    5. failure to follow orders given by crewleaders and/or being disruptive to the overall good of the crew.
